The replaceable tip of this automatic center punch is made from hardened spring steel with a hardness grade of 40 to 50 HRC. The knurling on the steel handle provides a non-slip surface. To create a center mark, the tip of the punch is placed on the scored point, and then the handle is pressed down vertically until the internal spring mechanism is triggered. This results in a clean marking or center punch. This process can be repeated multiple times to create a deeper mark. The striking force can be adjusted continuously by changing the spring pressure by turning the knurled cap.
