Application: On buildings for maintenance and cleaning work. Special regulations apply to chimneys regarding fastening and protection of the back. The following applies irrespective of the climbing height: either back protection or climbing protection can be used as fall protection (combination not permitted, as the rescue of persons is hindered by the back protection). The necessity of fall protection depends on the risk assessment (e.g. total height, height of the person, etc.) of the respective fixed ladder system; proof of the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil must be provided for each construction project by a responsible expert for stability. The vertical intersection of successive ladder sections must be at least 1,680 mm. At unsecured exit points, railings on both sides of the ladder or led into the exit level are required. The gap at the exit must not be greater than 75 mm. Approach dimension: Distance from entry level to first rung 100 to 400 mm. When exiting forwards, the top rung must be at the same height as the exit level. On fixed ladders with climbing protection, the free area in front of the ladder must be at least 800 x 800 mm. The gap between the fixed ladder system and the guardrail must not exceed 180 mm. It must be possible to make and release the connection to the climbing protection from a secure location. A secure location is, for example, a platform with railings and a secure access point. To ensure that the side rails can be safely reached around, the clearance to adjacent parts around the side rails must be at least 75 mm (with the exception of components belonging to the fixed ladder system). The maximum height of the individual ladder sections is 6.0 m.
