Product details

The optimum application for the two Mercury MRW104 and MRW84 subwoofers is in the bass reflex or bandpass range. The fact that the woofers require relatively small volumes means that several subwoofers can be used. For example, an MRW84 in a 20 litre bass reflex enclosure already achieves an extremely low lower cut-off frequency (-3 dB) of 32 Hz. With little loss of low bass, but with all the more dynamics and dry bass, the subs are also highly recommended for use in small closed enclosures. The quality of the Mercury subwoofers is exceptional: with the perforated steel baskets in HiFonics design, they not only set visual accents, the choice of components used is also impressive: scooped paper cones, durable rubber surrounds and robust spiders are the ingredients. Even the small MRW84 with a diameter of 20 cm can boast a very large 50 mm voice coil, just like its big brother MRW104. Both woofers are visually impressive with a chrome-plated basket and magnetic boat, so that they also look particularly good in inverted installations such as in the Mercury speakers with a view of the basket.

Good subwoofers don't have to be expensive, as the Hifonics Mercury woofers show. Sure, there are better ones, but here you get a lot of bass at an astonishingly high level for little money.
