Goga:Welding and welded joints

In this research work, the carbon-rich steel plate SA516 Grade 70 was selected to determine the best welding method for large thicknesses and good mechanical properties. Two welding processes were chosen - FCAW and SAW - both of which were used for welding carbon steel plates for butt welding. After welding, the test specimen underwent radiographic testing and destructive testing, such as tensile testing, side bending, root bending, face bending, transverse testing, impact testing, weld testing, hardness testing, and macro examination. A significant difference was found between the results, and it was investigated that the SAW welding process is the best method and improves the mechanical properties such as tensile strength and ductility of the welded joints. This research will assist welding engineers and designers in calculating materials that are to be welded with different service properties.
