While screws, clinching, and punch riveting require access to both sides of the component, the unique feature of the blind rivet is that only one-sided access is necessary. During the setting process, the rivet mandrel is pulled with the jaws of the setting tool, deforming the hollow rivet until it fits securely in the component. Finally, the rivet mandrel breaks off at the designated point, the predetermined breaking point, and the remaining mandrel can be recycled. The remaining mandrel is the part of the mandrel that stays in the hollow rivet and can serve an additional securing function depending on the application.
