Ferodo Brake Disc
Brake discs are almost always attached to the brake hub. During braking, the brake pads press against the disc brake, reducing the rotational speed of the disc and thus the entire vehicle. Brake discs are typically made from cast iron or steel alloys. Just like the brake pads, the brake disc wears out, although at a slower rate than the pads. Frequent braking can cause the brake discs to heat up significantly, and they must meet the highest standards. To withstand extreme loads, there are also discs made from carbon and ceramic.
To achieve increased heat resistance, brake discs are sometimes heat-treated. This process involves reheating them significantly after production and then cooling them down again. Additionally, there are ventilated brake discs. Perforated or slotted brake discs provide better braking performance in wet conditions, as they transport the water sitting on the brake disc away more quickly and effectively. Another advantage is that dirt, such as brake dust, disappears from the brake disc more rapidly.
