In shaping and reshaping, material is removed with the rough grinding wheel to create a desired shape, contour, surface, or cutting angle. During sharpening, a cutting edge is formed on a contour using the fine grinding wheel. Cutting tools are re-sharpened through fine grinding (polishing).
