The fire brigade extension ladder offers many different application possibilities. Depending on the purpose and the height of use, several ladder elements can be combined. In practice, the extension ladder is often used as a single ladder, ladder trestle, abseiling device, makeshift stretcher, or as an aid for rescuing people trapped in ice.

With a connecting piece and two or four ladder sections, it can also be used as a stepladder, a makeshift hose bridge, or with a descender for a 300 kg load.
