Product details
The wedge set offers a simple and effective method for precisely separating natural stone without mechanical splitting techniques. The set consists of two springs and a splitting wedge. For the most common application, a precise drilling is recommended for medium-hard stones. For harder materials, a 2 mm larger hole ensures optimal splitting effect. The drill holes are made along a previously marked splitting line using a hammer drill. It is important that the holes run parallel and are drilled at even intervals. The depth of the holes should exceed the length of the wedges to allow sufficient room for the wedge lift. The application involves inserting the springs into the drill holes, one on each side of the intended breaking line. Then, the wedges are evenly driven in with a hammer or mallet. A uniform driving of all wedges ensures a clean separation. For very resilient types of rock, it may be necessary to work along the breaking line with a crowbar. For more control over the breaking process, a surrounding groove with a pointed tool is additionally recommended. Depending on the type of rock, the number of wedges and the spacing of the drill holes vary. Brittle materials like marble require fewer wedges, as the breaking energy is distributed more evenly. Harder stones like serpentine or dense limestone require closer drill spacing and a higher number of sets. The need for wedges also increases with large-format stone blocks to achieve a controlled separation.
