Application: Castrol EDGE 0W-30 is suitable for use in petrol and diesel automotive engines for which the manufacturer recommends an engine oil type ACEA C3, API SN or earlier 0W-30 specification. Castrol EDGE 0W-30 has been approved by leading car manufacturers.

Summer oils have one of the viscosity classes 16 (low-viscosity), 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 (very viscous). The main distinguishing feature is the flow behaviour at high oil temperatures. Winter oils have one of the viscosity classes 0W (very low viscosity), 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W or 25W, whereby the "W" stands for "winter suitability". By far the most common engine oils today are so-called multigrade oils. These can bridge several viscosity classes and are suitable for combined summer and winter operation (e.g. 10W-40).
