Brembo Brake Disc

They are almost always attached to the brake hub. During braking, the brake pads press against the disc brake, reducing the rotational speed of the disc and thus the entire vehicle. Brake discs are usually made of gray cast iron or steel alloys. Just like the brake pads, the brake disc also wears out, but at a slower rate than the pads. With frequently repeated braking actions, the brake discs heat up significantly and must therefore meet the highest demands. To withstand extreme loads, there are also discs made of carbon and ceramic.

To achieve increased heat resistance, brake discs are sometimes heat-treated. In this process, they are heated significantly after production and then cooled down again. Additionally, there are ventilated brake discs. Perforated or slotted brake discs provide better braking performance in wet conditions, as they quickly and effectively drain the water that accumulates on the brake disc through their recesses. Another advantage is that dirt, such as brake dust, disappears from the brake disc more quickly.
