Is the bag really waterproof (31 litres)? Will my laptop stay intact if I ship properly when commuting?
Hi, I'm completely satisfied with my Base Camp Duffel, as already mentioned below, its waterproofing is optimal. However, as also mentioned below, it's preferable to protect your laptop, if only to protect it from knocks and damp.
I've never been caught in the rain before. That's why I can't answer your question.
Hi gogol3000, I have a total of 3 of these bags (1x in XS for work/study, 1x in XS for my sports equipment, and once in M for travelling).
I've had the two smaller ones for over 8 years now and they've been through everything - including downpours (both on foot and on the motorbike). The contents have always stayed dry, much to my satisfaction. But also the other way round, when I accidentally put my full water bottle in the sports bag and didn't close the lid properly, the whole 1.5 litres stayed in the bag...).
From this point of view, I would say that the bag protects the contents quite well from the rain, even if I wouldn't say that it is 100% waterproof, as the zip is the "weak point" in this respect, as with most bags.
As a personal tip, I would advise you to pack the laptop in a bag/sleeve of some kind, as the bag itself does not have a separate laptop compartment and therefore does not protect it from the rest of the contents of your bag.
All in all, I would definitely recommend buying the North Face Base Camp Duffel, they are pretty cool and sturdy.
I hope I was able to help you with my everyday experience.
Hello gogol3000, I sent the bag back because the zip didn't "work well". So unfortunately I can't answer your question.
