Question about Beurer EM 49

I don't understand the pulse intervals of the available training programmes. I know ems training from the gym. There are active intervals where you tense your muscles and pauses where you relax. These intervals are not understandable in the preset programmes. Unfortunately, there are no explanations anywhere.
