I have a thru axle (brand unknown), which is designed for the UHD from SRAM, i.e. M12x1.0. The length is 173 mm.
However, my thru axle does not have a cone.

Could I use this thru axle and omit the cone? Can the axle also be used for 173 mm if the cone is omitted?

Yes, this works, as various spacer discs for cylindrical thru axles are supplied
