The Handi Rack is certainly no substitute for a proper luggage rack. But anyone who only occasionally wants to transport e.g. boards or other smooth and tightly packed objects on the roof can do so with it (certainly not bicycles etc.). I have used it to transport a shelf on the motorway and if you drive appropriately, i.e. not at top speed, everything holds beautifully. Whether the windows have posts or not doesn't matter because the straps are passed under the roof through the inside of the car and lashed down, i.e. the Handi Rack is connected to the roof and not the doors / window posts. If you mount it properly, nothing will move.
For me it was an emergency solution because the replacement car has no luggage rack. In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether there is a post or not, because the belts are routed through the inside of the car. But I wouldn't use it on the motorway.
