1. Continental Grand Prix 5000
Made to make you better. This product follows the Grand Prix 4000 S II. With Continental's unique tread compound, produced exclusively in Germany, they have revolutionized the cycling scene. Thanks to the legendary BlackChili compound, Continental has sustainably answered the age-old question of grip versus rolling resistance. Regular test victories demonstrate the measurable and noticeable advantages for riders, both in the lab and on the road. The latest polymers, along with specially developed carbon black particles and fillers, ensure unique performance. Vectran is a high-tech fiber produced synthetically, inspired by nature. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer. Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and processed into a multifilament yarn. Both spider silk and Vectran possess enormous tear resistance at minimal weight. These are precisely the right properties to be used as a puncture protection insert in a top Continental tire. A Vectran breaker is lighter, more flexible, and provides more effective protection against cuts than comparable nylon breakers, without affecting rolling resistance.
Pro
- Good grip, on dry and wet roads
- Low rolling resistance
- Very good puncture protection
Contra
- Rather expensive
- Strict assembly (but that's the way it has to be...)
- Not easy to fit, sits very tightly

2. Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR
The Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR is a high-performance tubeless folding tire designed for demanding road cyclists. In size 28-622 and black color, this tire utilizes the advanced Black Chili Compound mixture in the tread for optimal grip and durability. The tire construction features a 3-layer 180 TPI carcass and Vectran Breaker technology, providing increased puncture protection and structural integrity. With Active Comfort Technology, this successor to the Grand Prix 4000 S II offers improved riding comfort compared to previous versions. The shoulder area incorporates aerodynamic structures with Lazer Grip Texturing technology, which enhances cornering stability and road handling through micro-perforations. As a folding tire, it uses Kevlar fibers instead of traditional steel wire beads, resulting in a lighter weight of approximately 345 grams and easier installation. The tubeless-ready design includes an integrated inner liner that allows for direct sealing on compatible rims, ensuring a stable fit with reduced rolling resistance. Compatible with standard 700C wheel systems, the tire supports a pressure range of 4.5 to 6.5 bar. The advancements show improvements in rolling resistance, puncture protection, and overall riding performance. For a variety of road cycling applications, this tire combines technical innovation with practical reliability under demanding riding conditions.
Pro
- Good grip, on dry and wet roads
- Low rolling resistance
- Very good puncture protection
Contra
- Already a little expensive
- First assembly heavier
- More difficult to mount than the 23 mm version, but the trigger

The universal gravel tire impresses with its unparalleled versatility and balanced riding characteristics, whether on paved roads, unpaved paths, or off-road. Whether it's an evening ride or an adventure trip, the all-rounder knows hardly any limits. The standard for all Evolution tires. The monofilament side fabric surpasses the previous SnakeSkin fabric in three ways: even greater cut resistance, higher puncture safety, and above all: it makes tubeless conversion extremely easy and secure. Very durable rubber compound with a wide range of requirements. Similar to Speedgrip, it is a universal compound for tires in the Performance Line. Puncture protection level 4. A double layer of nylon fabric provides solid protection. Specifically designed for lightweight and sporty tires.
Pro
- Rolls great
- Weight 470g
- surprisingly good grip for this profile

6. Maxxis Assegai WT TR DD 2x120TPI 3C Grip
After more than two years of development, the Maxxis Assegai is finally here. Greg Minnaar's signature tire embodies the essence of his 30 years of racing experience combined with Maxxis's expertise from over 50 years of tire production. The Assegai is a blend of the Minion DHF, Minion DHR II, and the HighRoller, designed from the best Maxxis profiles.
Double Down tires are constructed like downhill tires: two casing layers reinforced with a butyl insert in the sidewall. With two 120 TPI casing layers and an aramid bead, they are significantly lighter than downhill tires, yet more stable and robust than TR and EXO tires, making them ideal for tough enduro courses.
The well-known 3C downhill compound, which many top downhill riders have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers ultimate grip and excellent damping properties for unparalleled traction on downhill runs.
Tubeless tires have many advantages: you can ride with lower air pressure, which means better traction and reduced rolling resistance. And where there is no tube, the risk of punctures decreases. Maxxis TR tires are better prepared for mounting with sealant than other tubeless-ready tires. The bead of the TR tires is completely covered with a rubber layer, just like a true UST tubeless tire. This ensures successful tubeless mounting on all standard-sized rims right from the first inflation with minimal fluid.
Delivery includes: single tire. E-Bike compatibility: no manufacturer recommendation. Casing density: 120 TPI. Tire size in inches: 29 x 2.50 inches. Tire size ETRTO in mm: 63 - 622.
Pro
- Good grip, very robust
- Safe and stable
- Maximum grip
Contra
- Noticeably increased rolling resistance
- Extreme rolling resistance

7. Maxxis Minion DHR II WT TR DD 2x120TPI 3C Terra
With its completely new profile design, the Minion DHR II is the ideal tire for aggressive gravity riding. The center knobs have beveled edges for improved acceleration. Notches on the knobs enhance the transition when leaning into corners. Part of the center knobs has a paddle shape that digs in during hard braking, helping to keep the bike under control.
Extreme cornering grip, beveled center knobs for better acceleration, and good braking performance characterize this tire.
