Sports drinks

Sports drinks are specially formulated beverages designed to compensate for fluid and energy loss during exercise. They usually contain a combination of water, carbohydrates, electrolytes and sometimes protein. These ingredients serve to provide the body with sufficient fluid and energy and to maintain performance during training or competition. Sports drinks are available in a variety of flavours and often come in the form of powder or ready-mixed bottles. They are particularly useful during intense physical activity, endurance sports or longer training sessions. During exercise, the body loses fluids and electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and magnesium through sweating. Sports drinks can help to compensate for these losses and provide the body with sufficient fluid and electrolytes. In addition, sports drinks usually contain carbohydrates that provide the body with quickly available energy. This can be particularly beneficial during longer endurance sessions or intense workouts to increase performance and delay fatigue.
