Ski jackets

Skiing and snowboarding are the number one winter sports in Switzerland. So that you can show off all your moves on the slopes, it is important to have the right ski or snowboard jacket at the start.

Regardless of the filling material, it must be windproof and water-repellent. You can tell how water-repellent your winter sports jacket is by the water column rating - usually 5000 to 20000 mm. This indicates how well the jacket, including its zips and taped seams, protects you from the wet. The "DWR" (Durable Water Repellent) label tells you whether the surface has been treated and impregnated. Features such as helmet-compatible, detachable hoods, high collars and snow cuffs at the hips and sleeves also protect you from all weather conditions. Breathability also plays a big role when choosing your ski or snowboard jacket (applies from 8000 g/m²/24h). Thanks to clever ventilation slits and a membrane that transports water vapour from the inside to the outside, your temperature balance is regulated. There are also designations for the material of your snowboard jacket that you can look out for when buying: Gore-Tex ("Guaranteed To Keep You Dry") material, for example, matches breathability, waterproofing and windproofing to your body's needs.

The right jacket also has a pocket for your ski pass, one for your mobile phone and enough space for your ski goggles. Additional protection against wetness is provided by a snow guard or cuffs.
