Rim tape

    Rim tape

A rim tape is used on bicycles to cover the spoke holes in the rim to either protect the tube or to seal the rims on tubeless bikes. It is important to select a rim tape that matches the rim. If the rim tape is too narrow, it can slip while driving and release the holes. Too wide a band would rest on the rim flange. Ideally, the rim tape touches the rim wall just. Rim tapes consist of fabric tape, rubber, plastic or sometimes latex. Those made of fabric tape are glued to the rim base. Rubber or plastic rings are closed rings that are clamped onto the rim. Particularly with hollow section rims, where the spoke bores are larger, the use of a stable plastic band is recommended. If you rely on tubeless systems, you should use an appropriate tape.
