Product details

In the next development stage of the hubs for our professional-grade Firecrest wheels, we consulted with engineers at the German development office in Schweinfurt. The result is the ZR1 hub sets for disc and rim brake wheels. This hub set features an improved sealing design and faster engagement response thanks to 66 engagement points of the freehub body. Our engineers spent over two years developing the ZR1. The durability testing of the hub set included more than 58,500 km of test rides, which were part of 3,222 hours of testing. They incorporate key technologies from the Zipp Cognition hubs. The sealing design is inspired by Cognition, featuring a larger dust cap behind the freehub body and better seals for enhanced protection. The bearing size is also the same as that of the Cognition, although the Cognition uses premium bearings. The six pawls are staggered to work in two groups of three pawls. At any given time, three pawls engage simultaneously. This design creates a quick engagement feel with 66 engagement points. The freehub body is designed so that the pawls remain in place for easy maintenance. Zipp hubs are designed for use with J-bend spokes, which are currently the most popular type of spokes. J-bend spokes are widely used and easier to replace.
