Product details

Many people have asked us where they can find the old-fashioned city brake levers made by companies like CLB and Mafac. They especially want these in a size that fits road bars with a diameter of 23.8 mm. For example, our super popular Montmartre or Left Bank handlebars, which are suitable for bar-end shifters with a 23.8 mm diameter. This type of lever is still being manufactured, but mostly in low quality for children's bikes and developing countries. Most are made of heavy steel and have galvanized mounting bands. Many are also too small for large Western hands.

Details: We have found that probably the best model still being made actually comes from Taiwan and not China. They are made from a good quality aluminum alloy with a slightly shiny finish. The manufacturer has made them for us with a stainless steel clamp, which we consider a significant improvement. These levers work with caliper or cantilever brakes, but not with V-brakes. The best part is that they are available in both MTB (22.2 mm) and road handlebar (23.8 mm) sizes.

  • Clamp size: 22.2 or 23.8
