The Gea has been not only color-revised for the 21/22 season but also improved in material choice. The shoe is no longer made exclusively from Grilamid, which is functional but not entirely eco-friendly, but from the more sustainable "Pebax Rnew." Pebax Rnew is derived from castor oil rather than conventional plastics made from petroleum. Over the lifecycle of a Pebax Rnew product, approximately 30% CO2 can be saved compared to Pebax. Additionally, Pebax Rnew is slightly lighter than Pebax. It is also dynamic, durable, and can be molded very thinly, aligning with the desired characteristics of a ski boot.
The Gea offers 60 degrees of cuff rotation, weighs 1250 grams (in size 25), features a comfortable 101 mm last width, and has an adjustable cuff angle of 14, 16, or 18 degrees. The thermoformable liner made from Intuition foam is specifically pre-shaped and can be further customized to the individual foot through heat fitting in the oven. A distinctive feature of the Scarpa Maestrale/Gea family is the instep buckle, which ensures that the foot sits well in the heel, both while walking and skiing. The buckle at the forefoot sits nicely on the instep, where it does not interfere while walking. The inserts for pin bindings are Dynafit certified, and the shell fits all frame bindings (ISO 9523).
The Vibram rubber sole with a good profile offers almost hiking shoe qualities when you need to walk the last meters or a good stretch of the tour. Thus, the women's mainstream shoe has become even better and a bit more sustainable. Additionally, the shoe is equipped with a Recco reflector, which can assist in avalanche searches.
