They point out that the shorter durability is at least a temporary characteristic of the new Cell-Free/plastic ball generation and cannot be considered a quality defect by either them or the producer. Currently, only white Cell-Free balls are being produced. Whether and when orange balls will also be available remains unknown.

Background on the introduction of the Cell-Free/plastic ball: Celluloid is a hazardous material and is declining as a production material worldwide. Access to celluloid resources is therefore no longer secure for the coming years. To ensure the future of table tennis, the ITTF called a few years ago for the search for a material that is not hazardous and is sufficiently available worldwide. In this context, ball manufacturers found the solution in the plastic ball in collaboration with the ITTF.
