Garmin Varia Bike Radar Bundle

The world's first radar system for bicycles that warns of vehicles coming from behind from a distance of up to 140 metres. It can be used as a standalone device or connected wirelessly to compatible Edge bike computers. The Edge bike computer or Varia display unit can detect multiple vehicles and indicates the distance and the appropriate security level. The intensity of the radar tail light is automatically increased to warn approaching vehicles that a cyclist is in front of them.

Rear-end collisions are one of the most frequent causes of accidents for cyclists. According to a study by the ADFC (Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrradclub), almost 79,000 accidents involving cyclists occurred in Germany in 2014, of which 405 resulted in death. The most common cause of bicycle accidents is that cyclists are overlooked in road traffic. Varia Bicycle Radar warns approaching vehicles and informs the cyclist at the same time to provide the necessary response time and ensure safe participation in road traffic. The cyclist is no longer dependent on shoulder vision or good hearing. This is a breakthrough for safety on the bike.

Varia Cyclist Assistance products include intelligent Varia headlamps and taillights. When these taillights are coupled with certain Edge bike computers, you increase safety when cycling, as the light point is adjusted according to the speed of the bike and the brightness according to the changed lighting conditions. With increasing speed, the light is thrown further forward where it is needed most, and with decreasing speed, it is closer to the cyclist. As ambient light decreases or increases, the brightness of the headlights and taillights automatically adjusts when coupled to an Edge 1000 bike computer with light detection or the Varia radar control unit/display included.
