The Monterra features an outdoor-optimized, extremely durable 4" mineral glass display. As a result, it saves energy during the day, as the backlight only needs to be activated in darkness.
The Monterra is designed for long outdoor use. Users have the option to use the included lithium-ion battery or to utilize 3x AA batteries, which are easily available everywhere. This allows the Monterra to achieve battery life of up to 20 hours in GPS mode.

Das Garmin ist sicherlich ein sehr interessantes und zuverlässiges Navigationsgerät mit zahlreichen Zusatzfunktionen. Allerdings ist der Preis auch mehr als happig, sodass der Nutzer sich den Kauf einige Male überlegen wird. Die Konkurrenz aus dem Smartphone Bereich ist schließlich günstiger und bietet ebenfalls ähnliche Features.
Ein auf Android basierendes Outdoor-GPS-Handgerät für Profis und Freizeit-Anwender ist ein überaus interessantes Konzept, nur ist die Umsetzung Garmin nicht so recht gelungen. Android 4.0.4 ist veraltet, beim Thema Schnittstellen besteht Nachholbedarf, die Akku-/Batterielaufzeiten sind nicht so lange wie man es von Garmin Outdoor-Geräten gewohnt ist, Videos lassen sich nicht auf der Speicherkarte...
Das Monterra ist wohl das am besten ausgestattetste GPS aus der Testreihe denn mit WLAN, einer Kamera und dem Betriebssystem Android hat es einiges zu bieten. Allerdings ist der Bildschirm zu gering aufgelöst und auch die Akkuleistung könnte höher ausfallen.
