Finding the right bike saddle

Finding the right saddle is a science in itself. However, you can narrow down your choice if you know the distance between your sit bones. You can either have it measured in a specialist shop or you can sit on a piece of corrugated cardboard, pull your legs up and then measure the distance between the indentations that your sit bones leave in the cardboard. Now you can look for a saddle that is wide enough for your bum. Another criterion for the selection is your sitting position. Depending on whether you shift your weight more forwards or backwards, you should choose a saddle with a wider or narrower nose. Comfortable padding is also important. However, make sure that it is not too soft, as this will prevent uncomfortable pressure points on longer rides.
