Innovative seat shell base with space-optimized 3D shaping allows for the use of significantly more cushioning material in the sit bone area than other saddles in this category. The ultra-thin, flex-optimized carbon seat shell with a cantilever connection enables an innovative, multi-layer seat padding structure with a progressive damping characteristic. All SM3 saddles are handcrafted in the saddle manufactory of Selle Italia.

A key requirement for a saddle to be ridden comfortably is the individual sit bone distance of the rider. The sit bones are the areas of the pelvic bone that rest on the saddle when seated. This contact area changes depending on the angle of the upper body on the bike. When a rider sits upright on the saddle, the rear parts of the sit bones rest on the saddle. The more forward a rider leans, the further forward the sit bones touch the saddle. Since the pelvic bones taper forward in a V-shape, the saddle must be able to provide a sufficiently large contact area for the sit bones in different seating positions. Ergon SM3 saddles are optimally suited to the anatomy of male pelvic shapes.

In size and shape, size S is designed for a sit bone distance of 9 to 11 cm, size M for a sit bone distance of 11 to 13 cm, and size L for 13 to 15 cm.
