The Polartec® Alpha® material offers excellent insulation - soft, elastic, and lightweight. A few years ago, we thought it would be great for base layers, but it felt damp and clammy against the skin. In search of more warmth for our gravel rides in sub-zero temperatures, we tested the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer and found the perfect combination for cold rides. We refined the details and perfected this second layer for chilly days. It features a half-length zipper that doesn't add bulk around the waist. The zipper is slightly asymmetrically placed to avoid multiple zippers meeting at the neck. The fit is close to the body, allowing you the option to tuck it into your tights or wear it over them, as we do. It works excellently over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo, or Seamless base layer.
