The Polartec® Alpha® material provides excellent insulation - soft, elastic, and lightweight. A few years ago, we thought it would be great for base layers, but it felt somewhat damp and clammy against the skin. However, while searching for more warmth for our gravel rides in sub-zero temperatures, we tried the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer - and discovered the perfect combination for cold weather rides. We focused on the details and perfected this second layer for chilly days. It features a half-length zipper to avoid bulk around the stomach area, and the zipper is slightly off-center to prevent multiple zippers from meeting at the neck. We kept the fit close to the body, giving you the option to tuck it into your tights or wear it over them, as we do. We also found that it works excellently over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo, or Seamless base layer.
