In contrast to the regions of Southern Germany and Southern Hesse, the Iron Age/Celtic period in Northern Hesse has so far not been systematically or thoroughly examined by archaeology or early history. This publication describes over three dozen Celtic period fortifications, settlement sites, and burial fields, ranging from Amöneburg in the Marburg region to Boyneburg in the Werra-Meissner district and Sieburg in the northern tip of Hesse. Notably, there is a concentration of Celtic period fortifications along the northern edge of the Lower Hesse Basin, including the significant sites of Altenburg near Römersberg and Altenburg near Niedenstein. The "Celtic Region of Hoher Dörnberg," which has been archaeologically neglected for decades, is of particular importance, as it is presented systematically and comprehensively for the first time along with its surroundings.
