Zwischenwelten der Pädagogik

The question of what makes reality a pedagogical one has been a problem for modern pedagogy from the very beginning, as exemplified by the irritating strangeness of the child in Rousseau. Pedagogical reflection, which - in Kant's words - moves between compulsion and freedom in education, does not stand on a foundation of self-assured knowledge and practice. It takes place in intermediate worlds. However, if it is true that in advanced modernity the experiences of uncertainty and groundlessness are deepening, then a mode of pedagogical thinking in the "in-between" could be guiding in the development and analysis of the pedagogical realities in which we live. In this sense, the articles in this volume test out doing theory as navigating in pedagogical spaces of possibility - under the conditions of problematising and irritating pedagogical self-evident truths.
