Zwischen Hass und Haltung

As the chairman of the Kreuzberg Initiative Against Antisemitism, Derviş Hızarcı experiences the aftermath of the events of October 7 in Germany from a unique perspective. For years, he has fought for lived diversity and against hatred in education and schools in a country that is finally beginning to understand itself as a migration society. Yet now, just like after September 11, familiar dangers loom again: simplifications, accusations, the outsourcing of blame, and thoughtless exclusion by the majority. Once more, he must carve out a path on behalf of so many, navigating between hatred and conviction, and practically help reconcile the intensely conflicting emotions and identities to enable learning and safeguard remembrance. "Between Hatred and Conviction" tells of a special educational journey. It begins in post-migrant Berlin at a time when someone like Derviş Hızarcı painfully does not belong. Ultimately, it leads him to the responsibility of continuously redefining the conditions for a successful, diverse coexistence every day.
