"I Stand on My Head." – Erich-Wolfgang Hartzsch Eccentric – Dissident – Leader of an Artistic Counter-Movement: Erich-Wolfgang Hartzsch (born 1952 in Chemnitz, lives and works there) is one of the most influential representatives of the opposition nonconformist art scene in the GDR. He studied painting and graphics in Chemnitz, was a member of the music group Kartoffelschälmaschine, and participated in numerous actions and performances that were viewed with suspicion by the regime. His extensive inter- and multimedia work includes painting and printmaking, plastic and sculpture, drawings and collages, photography and film, as well as poetry and musical experiments.

The publication accompanying the exhibition "Second Skin" at the Francisco Carolinum Linz provides a comprehensive overview of Hartzsch's photographic and cinematic work. The works from the years 1979 to 1990, presented together for the first time, are introduced in the richly illustrated catalog through personal explanations by the artist.
