From a psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioural perspective, there have always been very different models of explanation and treatment for the development and therapy of obsessive-compulsive disorders. Although there is great agreement on the manifestations and diagnostic criteria, there is hardly a common denominator between the two therapeutic approaches to development, maintenance and psychotherapeutic treatment. Based on the general factors accepted by both therapies, Hansruedi Ambühl contrasts the either-or perspective with a both-and perspective and concretizes it by means of a case study of a patient with washing compulsion.
