Law does not fall from the sky. It is decided and contested, defended and challenged. But who has the authority to determine the possibilities of exercising law, shaping its form, and legally ordering the world? The conference proceedings inquire about the access to law and whether this access is legitimate. Access to law examines both the personal and substantive conditions for reaching the stages of law creation, as well as its legislative, executive, and judicial manifestations. These conditions also relate to actual power dynamics and the resulting threats to freedom and equality. The proceedings address access to legal and non-legal knowledge, the influence of private individuals on legislation, the relationship between courts and lawmakers, and access to the state and its offices. The volume reveals the strategic access to law and the evasion of state actors from the law.
