Product details
Alois Carigiet (1902-1985) was the older brother of the later actor Zarli Carigiet. In 1911, he moved to Chur with his parents, completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter, and then went to Zurich, where he worked in an advertising studio. In 1927, he was able to open his own studio, where he designed stage sets and costumes for a cabaret. In 1939, he transitioned from graphic designer to freelance artist when he moved to Obersaxen. There, he also worked on the illustration of children's books. He became most famous for "Schellenursli" (text by Selina Chönz), which made the Engadine tradition of Chalandamarz world-renowned. The subsequent children's books, such as "Flurina and the Wild Bird," did not quite reach the same level of fame but are no less valuable from an artistic perspective. He held exhibitions in Schaffhausen, Solothurn, and Geneva. In 1950, he moved back to Zurich. In 1956, he created the facade painting for the Schwarzer Adler in Stein am Rhein on behalf of the Falken brewery. In 1960, he returned to his home in Graubünden and continued to illustrate books. In addition, he also wrote children's books himself. Awards and honors: 1966 Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration, 1966 Swiss Youth Book Prize for "Zottel, Zick und Zwerg.".
