Product details

The encyclopaedic aspect of Barth's theology, i.e. its claim to include all other disciplines from dogmatics, has rarely been reflected upon by researchers. This may come as a surprise, since theology today finds itself in a precarious situation as far as its unity and the interrelatedness of its sub-disciplines are concerned. As a result of the increasing 'specialisation' of the disciplines, they are becoming more and more distant from each other. Interdisciplinary efforts to unify theology are not often undertaken, but are essential - also for the sake of church and religious practice. With his Christocentric theology of revelation, Karl Barth made the claim of a genuinely theological connection of the theological subjects, which is based neither on a uniform philosophical paradigm of reference nor on a specific concept of religion. The articles in this volume consider the often criticised weaknesses of this approach, but also its strengths, with a view to contemporary theology.
