Abstract: Few sports are as laden with myths and legends as strength training. How should I train? How do I build muscle the fastest? How do I need to adjust my diet? What should I eat before strength training and what afterwards? The question pronouns 'When and What?' are essential in the nutrition of strength sports. However, to understand the relevance of these questions, a closer examination of the physiological processes in the human body is necessary. This contribution promises a detailed and compact presentation of macronutrients in relation to various metabolic states: fatty acids, carbohydrates, and proteins. How do they act in isolation within the human organism at what time? How do they work in combination? To answer these questions, scientific databases were systematically examined and then summarized. Each theoretical insight is followed by a practical recommendation to best support strength athletes in achieving their successes.
