Rudolf is overwhelmed by the outbreak of a deadly virus pandemic. His isolation, already imposed on him due to the suspicion of murdering his wife, reaches unimaginable dimensions. Existence changes radically and evokes very different behavioral patterns. The crisis penetrates all areas. Fear and repression spread. Homeless people, hippies, traders, taxi drivers, Rudolf's hairdresser, officials, and even the president create a deafening cacophony. Rudolf's nephew, the stockbroker, picks him up by helicopter. After an orgiastic party, he takes him to Italy. Lifestyle and women enchant Rudolf. However, all the beauty is overshadowed by poverty. The child prostitution in Naples is shocking. The close bond with Italian friends during his captivity breaks apart in the new reality. Disputes over money and possessions divide them, leading to death. Unexpectedly, Rudolf's bank account is frozen. Depressed by this experience, he must endure the humiliations of poverty. While the suspicion of murdering his wife is somewhat alleviated, the ruin caused by speculation spreads the darkest worries. An unknown, terrifying freedom begins.
