A tribute to a classic, a grand novel, entirely by Heinz Strunk. Jonas Heidbrink, a successful man. Even before turning thirty, he had sold his start-up; he never has to work again in his life. But Heidbrink is not doing well, not at all. And so, on a cold January day, he sets off towards the east, into the Mecklenburg wilderness, where amidst the swamps stands a castle-like building: the sanatorium. Everything is quite noble, but still: a clinic for people with one issue or another. Heidbrink quickly finds himself wrapped in a corset of visits and treatments, having to decide whether to follow his misanthropy in the dining hall or seek connection. The people here—doctors, nurses, patients—are strangers to him, but soon they become his world. However, it seems the clinic is not running smoothly financially. An outbuilding is closed, the staff is reduced, and there are rumors that only convenience food is being reheated in the kitchen. And so, one month follows another—until a mysterious accident occurs in the swamps.
