The Protestant churches aim to be churches of Scripture. According to Reformed teaching, the Bible is clear, unambiguous, and understandable. It provides the church with foundation and direction. However, reality looks different: the Bible is ambiguous, and almost anything can be justified with it. As a result, the Bible in our Protestant churches is not so much a common foundation but rather a perpetual bone of contention among various groups. In this situation, the Theological Commission of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation attempted to build bridges and facilitate discussions between representatives of different approaches to the Bible with their "Bible Project." They invited the fundamentalist Prof. Dr. Ernst Lerle, the evangelical Pastor Dr. Wolfgang Bittner, the feminist Denise Jornod, the New Testament scholar Prof. Dr. Daniel Marguerat, and Pastor Rolf Ka.
