Jugend in Flammen

Aliza Vitis-Shomron, born in 1928 in Warsaw to a Jewish family, loses nearly her entire family during the Nazi regime. She finds hope in the Jewish youth movement Hashomer Hatzair. Too young to participate in armed struggle, she is just old enough to document her experiences in writing. On scraps of paper, she notes how her family and friends struggle for survival in the Warsaw Ghetto. "Youth in Flames" tells the story of the Holocaust from the perspective of a girl active in the underground and recounts the experiences of a young woman who escapes from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, is rescued from a stranded train near Farsleben, and dares to start anew in Israel after the war. Telling her story is and will remain her legacy.
