What opportunities for development are available to multilingual students in monolingual educational institutions in South Tyrol? How and when do young people come to understand themselves as "non-belonging" or "foreign," and how do they explore creative forms of transcending traditional boundaries? Irene Cennamo reconstructs the actions and orientations of adolescents during their transition in school by analyzing narrative interviews in a comparative case study. Her social and migration education study provides insights into the school cultural practices that have become habitual and reveals how socio-economic and cultural realities are represented and validated in schools.
