Freedom from discrimination is essential for equal participation and equality. People (groups) who have previously had little or no power are increasingly making justified claims. However, there is a great deal of uncertainty as to when discrimination has occurred. In order to counter this destructive stalemate, the author succeeds in analysing essential questions and contradictions in the discourse on protection against discrimination in an understandable way and critically questions mechanisms that stand in the way of constructive efforts to achieve non-discriminatory and fair coexistence. The practical approach, which does not require any prior knowledge, also appeals to people who want a society free of discrimination but do not have the time, resources or nerves to deal with the topic in depth. Numerous examples (on prejudice or "what you are still allowed to say today") make it easier to understand the (painful) experience of different forms of discrimination, even if you have never been affected by it yourself.
