The Swiss poet, writer, and publisher Eugen Gomringer (*1925), born in Bolivia, is often referred to as the father of concrete poetry. He was an active figure in the design and art scene of post-war Switzerland, giving poetry a voice at the intersection of literature, art, and design. From 1953, Gomringer co-edited the artist magazine "spirale" with Dieter Roth and Marcel Wyss, which served as the starting point for his form of poetry. Early on, Gomringer sought to blur the boundaries between poetry and advertising language. Throughout his career, he advocated for interdisciplinarity and actively collaborated with artists and graphic designers such as Max Bill, Karl Gerstner, Anton Stankowski, and especially the Zurich-based design studio E + U Hiestand. This publication emerged after extensive research in archives in Switzerland and Germany. The book combines original visual material and selected works from Gomringer's long-standing collaborations as an art director and copywriter for various companies. It also includes the theoretical essay "vom Vers zur Konstellation," Gomringer's original manifesto published in 1954.
