In recognition of this fact, the independent nonprofit organization World Press Photo Foundation, based in Amsterdam, has been awarding the World Press Photo Award for over six decades for the best image, best story, and best long-term report of the year. The award-winning images from various categories tell bold stories and provide invaluable insights into the state of our world.

The winning photos are announced alongside the book launch and are presented in a traveling exhibition. It remains extremely exciting to see which works are selected from thousands of submissions—and, of course, which photo will be the current cover illustration.
