A country on the brink of war. A journey into the unknown. A marriage threatened by death. A blackmail call turns a terrible suspicion into certainty: She has been kidnapped, and Kalf is forced to obtain material related to a dark secret in the life of Eugen Meerkaz. Kalf's desperate search becomes a journey into the heart of the USA on the eve of the Iraq War and a portrait of a German in a foreign land.
