Product details
Among the waves of migration from Germany, the emigration to Russia in the 1960s at the invitation of Tsarina Catherine II is also known, the main stream of which settled in an area on the Volga. The settlements of these emigrants remained largely isolated, had no connection with the German language and culture area, but preserved their language (or dialects) and culture for centuries. Since people from different German regions with different dialects came together in each of these settlements, mixed Volga-German dialects gradually developed.
Heinrich Werner describes just such a dialect and focuses on the historical sound changes that have shaped the dialect's peculiar sound and its divergence from other dialects. Since it is basically a Rhenish dialect, Werner approaches the problem from the point of view of Rhenish accentuation and, on the basis of his diachronic-typological approach, proposes an original conception of tone accent genesis, which starts from the Stoß,ton as a key phä,nomen.
