Vanessa Hagedorn examines the use of centralized versus decentralized energy supply systems in two urban residential areas with different planning characteristics, considering technologies such as photovoltaic systems, neighborhood battery storage, boilers, and a low-temperature heating network. Through a model-based analysis, the author compares the centralized and decentralized energy supply systems based on various criteria, including their ecological and economic aspects, as well as their energy autonomy. For the first time, decentralized energy systems are optimized simultaneously at both building and neighborhood levels, which has previously only been achievable separately in many models.
