Since 1990, the city and region of Leipzig have experienced an almost unparalleled development in Germany. Today, Leipzig, with a population of 620,000, ranks once again among the top ten cities and is fully in trend as a location for business, culture, and science. Amid all these successes, the question arises as to where the Leipzig region will develop in the future. How will we live tomorrow? What developments will shape our cultural landscapes? What is the future of the Leipzig New Lake District? Which megatrends can be anticipated, and what uncertainties lie ahead? Two long-term research projects, running since 2017 under the Stadt-Land-Plus program, offer the opportunity to take stock and provide a perspective on urban and regional development. Partners from academia and practice illustrate through texts, data, facts, and background information, as well as numerous maps and illustrations, how inter-municipal cooperation can succeed in securing future prospects.
